    Location: Aptos Branch
    Trying to play with technology and getting frustrated? A tech savvy librarian will provide instruction in the use of a wide range of technology services: How to use free downloadable content available from your library in a number of formats (eBooks, eAudiobooks, and streaming video) Introduction to SCPL databases (i.e. Consumer Reports, Community Information, etc…) Creating an email account Downloading and attaching files Word processing direction and support Drop-in weekly appointments, 20 minute slots available. To best support learning, please bring the following items: devices (i.e., laptops, tablets, and/or smartphones), necessary passwords (Google Play, App Store), and library card! First-come, First-served. FREE!

    SCPL's CodeCombat Coding Club is a once weekly meetup where we use online, game-based coding to learn Python and JavaScript. CodeCombat is a real game that teaches how to code by playing through levels and quickly mastering programming concepts. It's not just gamification with bells and whistles, it's democratizing learning to code by making the process more accessible and engaging than ever before! Learners write code, execute it and see their changes in real-time! This event is open to youth 11 to 18 yrs

    Location: Scotts Valley Branch
    Santa Cruz Public Libraries’ very own makerspace—The MAKE Lab—opens for business in 2018! This makerspace will offer a variety of tools for STEAM-based projects including: 3D printers, vinyl cutter, woodburning tool, soldering tool, pinback button machine, book binding machine, and a virtual reality-based sculpting and painting program. Tools are limited in quantity and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Kids 13 and under will need parental permission and supervision. Staff will be available to help answer questions and train patrons on more difficult tools. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Scotts Valley Library.

    One of our tech savvy librarians will help you with a variety of technology services during weekly drop-in 20-30 minute appointments. First come first served, appointments are taken in order of appearance. Topics include: creating an email account, creating word documents, attaching files, using premium subscription library resources, downloading and streaming content like movies, books, and audiobooks, and much more! Please bring any devices you use, and have your necessary passwords and library card with you.

    Join us for an interactive demo at the library as we create 360° video using smart phones and virtual reality equipment. We hope to see you at this exciting exploration of 360° video technology.
