Online LearningThe sky is the limit when you can teach yourself new skills using video tutorials and online courses. Santa Cruz Public Libraries also provides free access to internet computers and lendable technology.

We recommend the digital learning resources listed below.  Explore these self-paced online options to grow your tech skills.

Basic Tutorials

  • DigitalLearn.org - Short tutorials on computer basics for beginners.
  • LearnFree.org - Computer basics, social media, Microsoft Office and more.
  • Tech Boomers - Short tutorials about popular websites designed for baby boomers, but suitable for anyone.
  • Google Applied Digital Skills - Follow video lessons and hands-on activities designed to build skills.

More Advanced Courses

  • edX - Audit courses for free from leading universities. This includes computer science courses for beginners and advanced learners. Access to course materials, graded assignments and certifications may require fees.
  • LinkedIn Learning LinkedIn Learning has thousands of professional online business, creative, and tech courses that build in-demand skills. Free access requires library card and password.
  • Open Culture - Links to free online courses in computer science and many other topics.

Local Technology and Computer Classes

Senior Computer Center of Santa Cruz is located at the at London Nelson Community Center (301 Center Street Santa Cruz, California 95060).  Annual membership is $25 per year per person. They offer classes and help using Android, iPhones, and other computer trouble shooting services. Watsonville, Aptos, Santa Cruz Adult Education has been a community resource for over 90 years.  They currently offer a variety of computer and internet classes.  These classes do have a cost ranging from $50-$100. Check out the Adult Education website to view their class selection and register online.  

Cabrillo College Extension offers an array of computer and technology classes from beginner to advanced.  The cost of these classes vary from $35-$200 with group discounts available.  Visit the Cabrillo College Extension website to see all the course options and prices.

Local Technology Help

Grey Bears also offers free instruction with a tech expert for your laptop computer, iPad, tablet, smartphone or other device. Reservations are required. Call the office to schedule your phone support tech help session. Dial 831-479-1055 and press "0" to connect to the receptionist.

Londen Nelson Community Center offers in-person tech support for local seniors (55 and up).  Appointments are required. Call 831-420-6180 to schedule. 

Workforce Santa Cruz County provides multiple locations with computer access.  Capitola Career Center provides walk-in access to approximately 15 computers for those needing to complete online forms or search for employment. The Watsonville Career Center can be contacted at 831-763-8700 to arrange access to computers. Staff support for using computers at these county centers is available.
