Emergency Shut Down: Felton & Scotts Valley Closed for Curbside

Updated at 4:30 pm on August 26, 2020:

The Felton and Scotts Valley Branch Libraries are in evacuated areas and will continue to suspend cusrbside services until the evacuation ends. The Scotts Valley Branch is currently being used by CalFire as an operations base. Both the Felton and Boulder Creek branches remain standing! Thank you to all the firefighters!

Library staff are not able to enter these branches to retrieve materials, which means that some of the items you may be waiting for at other locations will take longer than usual to come in. Approximately 18% of our collection is inaccessible at this time. We have extended due dates for library materials that were checked outfrom the Scotts Valley and Felton Branches.

We will continue to provide curbside services at our 3 remaining locations: Aptos, Downtown, and Live Oak, as long as air quality remains at levels that are safe for staff and the public.

For those who were evacuated, please do not worry about your library material. Take care of yourselves and your families. We will waive fines.

SCPL will suspend curbside services at branches when the Air Quality Index reaches 150 or higher. At that point, the air is considered unhealthy. We want to protect our staff and the public from dangerous toxins in the air.

Many library staff have been affected by the fires and evacuations. Our thoughts are with them and all evacuees and first responders.

Check our Community Emergency Resources Page for information about evacuations, shelter, WiFi access, and more.
