SANTA CRUZ PUBLIC LIBRARIES

SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2020

An Events & Reading Program for Babies, Kids, Teens, and Adults

The Santa Cruz Public Libraries' (SCPL) Summer Reading Program, IMAGINE YOUR STORY, begins June 1st and runs through July 31st. Our entire program has gone virtual! Studies show that reading just 5 books over the summer can significantly reduce Summer Slide - a term for the learning loss experienced over the summer. That's why summer reading is the biggest program of the year!

    How to Participate

To sign up, visit santacruzpl.org/srp. Those without internet access may call 831-427-7713 or text 831-264-0647 to get the paper reading log and be entered into the program. Signups begin June 1st and participants have until July 31st to sign out of the program and receive their rewards. Participants of all ages are encouraged to read books of their own choosing, listen to audio books, or be read to.

Upon registration, kids and teens ages 0-17 receive a $10 Atlantis Fantasyworld gift certificate good towards a specially curated collection of comics and graphic novels. Other rewards:

    • Read 5 hours: kids 0-11 earn a NEW free book selected by SCPL Librarians. Ages 12 and over earn a coupon for a book worth up to $10 from any Friends of the Libraries Lobby or Book Sales, except for Capitola.
    • Read 10, 15, and 20 hours: all ages earn a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize from our drawing.
    • Complete 5 activities: all ages earn a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize from our drawing.
    • Complete 10 activities: all ages earn a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize from our drawing.

Raffle prize winners will be notified at the beginning of August by email or phone.

We will again use the Beanstack online platform for families and individuals to track their reading over the summer. The platform allows readers to add reviews and claim rewards and includes a mobile app. Paper reading logs are available to those who prefer to track their reading that way.

The Santa Cruz Public Libraries' Summer Reading Program is made possible through our partnership with Atlantis Fantasyworld, the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) cslpreads.org.
