Service Disruptions for Technology Upgrades
All Services will be
Disrupted September 13th
SCPL will implement a major upgrade
of our technology infrastructure starting at 3 a.m. September 13th and
lasting through at least 9 p.m. All digital services provided by the library
will be disrupted during the upgrades.
The following services
will not be available during the scheduled upgrades:
- Online Catalog and My Account
- Our entire website, including calendar of events
and registrations
- Digital Collections of ebooks, eaudio, movies,
music, etc.
- Research Collections
- All Public WiFi access points
- SCPL’s Mobile App
Although Information
Services by phone, text, and email will remain available during our regular
hours of 1 – 5 p.m. that day, staff will not be able to assist with book
requests or account inquiries until the upgrade is complete.
This significant upgrade
to our system's infrastructure is the first step toward our hybrid digital
strategy that includes a mix of on-premise and in-the-cloud services. With
this step, we will be more resilient in the event of power outages, with no Internet
outages if our data center goes down. We expect to complete implementation of the
entire digital strategy by December 2020.
Once we move to our hybrid model our servers and
assets the cloud will be maintained on the most proven and trusted cloud
platform in the world. It will reduce hardware failures and costs and ensure
that no matter what happens in the buildings, our core digital services are
always available.
