Downtown Library Design Approved

The Santa Cruz City Council approved the preliminary design for the new Downtown Library in a mixed-used facility at the corner of Cedar and Cathcart Streets. The design, created by Jayson Architects, includes 100-125 affordable homes, a daycare center, and parking.

The view of the front of the building from Lincoln and Cedar.

The lobby and "marketplace" books and materials. Service desk is to the right, and stairs to the second floor are in the far left corner.

Locations of the Library, Housing, Commercial and Daycare spaces, and parking on the site.

The second floor has windows with natural light and holds most of the collection.

Cross-section of the lot shows how building elements are arranged to allow natural light and privacy.
