Small homes, usually located in residential neighborhoods and usually licensed by the state, that provide a room, meals and supervision, but no nursing services for older adults whose limitations prevent them from living alone. Services vary from facility to facility but may include dietary and housekeeping services, monitoring of prescription medication, social and recreational opportunities, and assistance with toileting, bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility and other activities of daily living. Individuals who are incontinent or who have severe problems with memory loss may not be accepted.
