Swimming Safety Education

Programs that are designed to increase public awareness of the measures that people can take to ensure their safety when swimming in the ocean, a lake, a river, a pond or a public or private swimming pool; engaging in water sports such as surfing or water skiing; or when using a spa, hot tub or whirlpool. Topics may include child drowning prevention, safety barrier guidelines for home pools and spas; diving safety; pool rules; hot tub risk factors; water quality assurance; basic water rescue techniques for oneself or others; life jackets, wet suits and other protective gear; protection against and treatment of hypothermia; swimming in undertows, rip tides and other strong currents; inshore holes; sneaker waves; dangerous beach and surf conditions; and sharks, jellyfish and other sea denizens.
