| Description: | Founded in 1916 to promote amateur radio, today this club (tax-exempt 501(c)(7) is an organization of over 100 Santa Cruz County amateur radio operators. During emergencies (floods, fires, etc.) and for major community events (bike races, long-distance competitions for horses and riders, etc.) these "ham" radio operators provide communications assistance by both voice and by instant radio transmission of printed information, lists of needed medical supplies, routing of repair equipment, etc. Most members have their own radio transmitting and receiving stations, usually in their homes, with many members also having portable stations in their autos plus miniaturized hand carried transceivers. Some members talk regularly with other amateur radio stations around the world. The club operates two repeater stations, one in Santa Cruz and the other in Watsonville, to extend the communications range of portable radios throughout most of the county. |
| Meetings: | Visitors are welcome to the monthly meetings which feature informational speakers. Meetings take place on the 3rd Friday of each month, 7:30pm (except December) at American Red Cross chapter office, 2960 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz 95062. All are welcome!
