| Description: | Our Santa Cruz chapter was founded in 1991. We are an ALL VOLUNTEER Chapter united by our love of and respect for the ocean and by our desire for clean water, healthy beaches and access to such sites. Surfrider was founded by surfers and many of us surf whenever we can. However, our members come from many walks of life, and anyone who shares our goals is welcome to join us. And, when we speak of surfers, we include any and all of the tribe who ride the waves, including their own bodies, surfboards, body-boards, sailboards and kite boards. The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental organization with an international network that boasts over 250,000 supporters and 100 chapters worldwide. Together we are dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves, and beaches through a powerful activist network! |
| Programs: | Blue Water Task Force: a program that tests water quality at local beaches weekly, helping to determine which beaches are safe and clean and which ones need help. Beach Cleanups: Every first Saturday of the month, from 11am-1pm (unless otherwise noted),we walk a different local beach and clean-up trash. beachcleanup@santacruz.surfrider.org Save Our Surf: For the 21st consecutive summer, Couch Distributing has committed to help raise $10,000, supporting Surfrider Santa Cruz's projects and campaigns through the annual Save Our Surf program. Educational: School groups can schedule an education program by calling the Santa Cruz Chapter office at 831-476-7667 or by emailing education@surfridersantacruz.org World Surfing Reserve (WSR) On April 28, 2012, approximately 7 miles of the Santa Cruz city and county coast became the official 4th World Surfing Reserve on the planet.
