World Chess Championship


Watch the pros play Chess

From November 9 to 26, two players will compete for the official chess world championship: the defending world champion, Magnus Carlsen of Norway, and the challenger, Fabiano Caruana of the United States. Caruana is the first American player to qualify for a shot at the uncontested world championship since Bobby Fischer in 1972. If you want to watch this once-in-a-lifetime event, please come to the Aptos Public Library on Saturday, 11/10; Friday 11/16; Saturday 11/24; and Monday 11/26. All four events will last from 10 am to noon.

We will live stream video from London and have live commentary from local masters, Gjon Feinstein and Dana Mackenzie

Please note that 11/24 and 11/26 are the dates for the last two games of a scheduled 12-game match. If the match is decided earlier, then one or both of those games may be canceled.
