Join a community project, "We Have Stories To Tell" which unites children with family members, senior citizens and library staff to encourage the development of literacy skills through story telling. Children have the opportunity to make their own books in which they portray the story they are telling with illustrations of their own design.

Kids Chess Tournament

SCPL News

All chess enthusiasts aged 6-18 are invited to participate in the Aptos Library Kids Chess Tournament. This annual tradition, now in its 15th year, is hosted by Resident Chess Master Dana McKenzie, who also instructs kids at the Aptos Library weekly chess club.

Saturday • May 27 • 12:00-4:00pm
Aptos Library • 7695 Soquel Dr.

  • Sign-ins 12:00-12:30pm
  • Rounds at 1:00, 2:00, & 3:00pm
  • Prize Ceremony at 4:00pm
  • Refreshments are provided by the Friends of the Aptos Library

Advance registration is required; stop by or call the Aptos Library at 427-7702.

Weekly chess clubs for kids ages 6-18 are held at the Aptos Library Tuesdays 3:30-4:30p.m. Weekly chess clubs are also held at the Downtown Library every Saturday except the 1st Saturday of the month from 2:00-3:30p.m. The Downtown Chess Club is led by Chess Master Gjon Feinstein.
