Santa Cruz Young Makers Club


The Santa Cruz Young Makers Club brings together a community of young people with a mentor and a space to make. Participants design, create, and ultimately exhibit a self-chosen project aimed towards exhibiting at a showcase event like Maker Faire. Materials for projects are provided by SCPL. Ages 8 - 18.

4 week pilot runs through February

  • FEB 5 • Intro to Making: A brief introduction to making and what to expect for the next four weeks, plus a freestyle LED project.
  • FEB 12 • Popsicle Stick Lanterns: Create lanterns with basic materials.
  • FEB 19 • Icosahedron Paper Plate: You won't forget what an icosahedron is after making one!
  • FEB 26 • ArtBots: Make a moving robot with surprising materials.

Our mentor Sasha has participated in the Maker Ed program. She has been on panels at Intel, Pearson Learning, Pixar and Bay Area Maker Faire, and Young Makers. She has won awards at Synopsys Silicon Valley Science and Technology Championship and Santa Cruz County Science & Engineering Fair.
