Former Local Pastor Dies

A recent issue of the Daily Report of Ontario, chronicled the death of Rev. Edward Thomas Sanford, who in 1896-98 was pastor of the local Baptist Church. He died at Ontario, where he had resided for 13 years. At the time of death he was 82 years of age, having been born at Thompson Maine. for 25 years he has lived in Southern California where he was greatly beloved.

He was a captain during the Civil war and received a gunshot wound in his side, from which he suffered all his life. After the war he was American consul at Chefoo, China and came home to prepare himself as a missionary, but owing to the ill health of his wife he was unable to return to China.

In California he ministered at Eureka, Santa Cruz, Corona, Chino and Ontario. He is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.
