Details
Description: Through our research, education, and outreach programs, the Center works to create agriculture and food systems that sustain both human communities and the environments in which they live. Offers undergraduate and graduate courses and also sponsors a 6-month ecological horticulture training course through University Extension.
A community support group, the Friends of the Farm and Garden, concentrates on outreach to the community via free lecture series, workshops and classes on a monthly basis. Members receive a subscription to the News and Notes newsletter.

Between approximately June and October organic produce and flowers from the Farm and Garden are for sale at the Market Cart at the campus entrance, in front of the Barn Theatre, on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 6pm early June through late October (approximately).

Tours: Both the 30-acre UCSC Farm and 3-acre Alan Chadwick Garden are open to the public daily from 8am to 6pm, with a self-guided tour brochure available at the Farm entrance. Large groups can call 459-3240 to schedule a group tour and for directions to the farm and garden. Free docent-led tours are offered the first Sunday of the month from 2-3:30 pm, April through November.
Mission: The mission of the Center for Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS or the Center) is to research, develop, and advance sustainable food and agricultural systems that are environmentally sound, economically viable, socially responsible, nonexploitative, and that serve as a foundation for future generations.
