Join us on Tuesday afternoons for some building fun with LEGO or DUPLO bricks. Children learn through play and bricks provide a wonderful link between structure, patterns and imagination. Let's build and learn together! Ages 3 and older as the LEGO bricks are very small.

Create and motorize devices using simple machines (levers, pulleys, gears & swivels). Participants will also learn how to program motors. 8 week series. Space is limited. No advanced registration. Ages 8 to 18.

Location: Downtown Branch
In a library very nearby, young people will go on an adventure, exploring possibilities to be found, dodging stormtroopers and Mandalorian bounty hunters along the way. Beware Vader's Fist! Members of the Golden Gate Garrison 501st Legion of costumed volunteers will be invading the downtown library and Atlantis Fantasyworld on Star Wars Day. Come down to the library for STEAM activities, get a look at our Star Wars LEGO display and search for the missing Jedi Master Kevin. all the while dodging stormtroopers and Mandalorian bounty hunters along the way. Cosplay (dressing as Star Wars characters) is encouraged!

SCPL is partnering with the Children's Museum of Discovery (MOD), The Natural History Museum and UCSC to present a science series for adults. Meetings will be held on the 1st Thursday of every month at 6:30pm at one of the branch libraries.
Note: Supermassive Black Holes: the most powerful objects in the universe, with Dr. Martin Gaskell from UCSC. Join us to round off an Out-of-this-world day!

A flexible club bringing together a community of young people with mentors and a space to make. Participants work together to design, create, and ultimately exhibit a youth-chosen project , aimed towards exhibiting at a showcase event like Maker Faire. The club is lead by Sasha, a young maker mentor, who has been on panels at Intel, Pearson Learning, Pixar and Bay Area Maker Faire, and Young Makers. She has won awards at Synopsys Silicon Valley Science and Technology Championship and Santa Cruz County Science & Engineering Fair. She was recently published in National Geographic Magazine January 2017 issue. The group the 4th Sunday of each month.
