FREE coffee, FREE talk; social support and information services for all. This program is designed to serve people experiencing homelessness, however it is an open space for all. Please join us in front of the downtown branch library (at the benches on the corner of Church St. and Center St.) every Thursday morning (except major holidays) for a free cup of coffee and the chance to talk, vent, brainstorm and connect with friends, neighbors and service providers. If you so choose, sign-up for Working Together, and work with an individual information advocate one-on-one to help you tackle an information issue, of your choice.

The Friends of the Aptos Library is a chapter of the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries (FSCPL), a non-profit organization. The Aptos Friends support the Aptos Library through fundraising and advocacy for our branch. We solicit recommendations for projects from the Aptos community, from library patrons, and from the Aptos Library Staff. The Aptos FSCPL meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 5:00pm. Drop-in for a confidential check-in during office hours at the Downtown library, in the downstairs small meeting room (behind the computer area). The California Highway Patrol is offering a traffic safety program for seniors. The Age Well, Drive Smart Program is designed to provide mature drivers with the keys to driving safer and driving longer. Topics will include: How to tune up driving skills, refreshing knowledge of the rules of the road, learning about normal, age related physical changes and how to adjust them, when it may be time to limit or stop driving. The Aptos Library Writing Group is a peer-led, community-based, on-going writing group. Those interested in: sharing their writing; improving and developing their writing; or trying their hand at writing for the first time, are welcome. No experience is necessary and all writing formats are considered, from poetry to short stories, from memoirs to fiction. Each session begins with a 10 minute writing exercise, followed by a read-aloud (sharing is optional). Next, participants take turns reading aloud from a current writing project. Assistance with editing on current writing projects is provided; please bring additional copies if interested in editorial support. This group assembles on the third Wednesday of each month from 1pm-3pm in the meeting room of the Aptos branch library.

Exercises and artistic expression will help us create a vision of who we are, and who we want to be, planning for the future we deserve. Finding Our Way is an 8-week workshop designed for women experiencing homelessness, yet open to all. Join facilitator Kristy Duncan of the OnRoute22 project as we create a supportive, collaborative group to safely explore personal goals and talents. Exercises and artistic expression will help us create a vision of who we are, and who we want to be, planning for the future we deserve. A co-sponsored event of the Downtown Streets Team, the Santa Cruz Public Libraries and OnRoute22. Drop-in for one of the first 3 sessions to decide if the program is for you! (Downtown Small Meeting Room, 1st floor)

FREE coffee, FREE talk; social support and information services for all. This program is designed to serve people experiencing homelessness, however it is an open space for all. Please join us in front of the downtown branch library (at the benches on the corner of Church St. and Center St.) every Thursday morning (except major holidays) for a free cup of coffee and the chance to talk, vent, brainstorm and connect with friends, neighbors and service providers. If you so choose, sign-up for Working Together, and work with an individual information advocate one-on-one to help you tackle an information issue, of your choice.

Work with an information advocate on any information problem, application, resume or access issue of your choice. A library staff member or community volunteer will work with you individually using a laptop computer and access to free phone calls, prints, scanning and more. Use this time to overcome hurdles to housing, safety, education, health, income or well being. Same day sign-ups during Coffee Talk in front of the Downtown branch library at the corner Church St. & Center St. Drop-in also welcome. Look for us in the upstairs meeting room; or sometimes at the downstairs tables behind the computer area.

The California Highway Patrol offers a traffic safety program for teenage drivers and their parents. The primary objective is to provide teens and parents with an understanding of how poor choices behind the wheel can impact the lives of many. Traffic collisions are the lead cause of death for ages 15-20. The Start Smart Program provides information on: Defensive driving, DUI awareness, traffic laws, dynamics of traffic collisions and tips on avoiding them.
