FREE coffee, FREE talk; social support and information services for all. This program is designed to serve people experiencing homelessness, however it is an open space for all. Please join us in front of the downtown branch library (at the benches on the corner of Church St. and Center St.) every Thursday morning (except major holidays) for a free cup of coffee and the chance to talk, vent, brainstorm and connect with friends, neighbors and service providers. If you so choose, sign-up for Working Together, and work with an individual information advocate one-on-one to help you tackle an information issue, obstacle or problem of your choice.

Same day sign-ups during Coffee Talk in front of the Downtown branch library at the corner Church St. & Center St. Connect with Kris Younggren, our Downtown Outreach Worker, make a free phone call, access free printing and scanning, receive help with establishing an email account, performing a housing search, creating a resume, applying for a lifeline telephone and more.

The Aptos Library Writing Group is a peer-led, community-based, on-going writing group. Those interested in: sharing their writing; improving and developing their writing; or trying their hand at writing for the first time, are welcome. No experience is necessary and all writing formats are considered, from poetry to short stories, from memoirs to fiction. Each session begins with a 10 minute writing exercise, followed by a read-aloud (sharing is optional). Next, participants take turns reading aloud from a current writing project. Assistance with editing on current writing projects is provided; please bring additional copies if interested in editorial support. This group assembles on the third Wednesday of each month from 1pm-3pm in the meeting room of the Aptos branch library.(Hiatus in the month of August).

The Felton Library Festival will feature a temporary art installation of Fantastic Figures on the new library site made by local artists. The event will include art activities for families, food, information on the library project, and raffle drawing. Music will be by Ben Lonesome and the Highway 9er’s, Dave McClelland and Friends, Patti Maxine, and Young People’s Theater singers. The Festival and art installation are intended to celebrate our future Library and outdoor area. View site plans (construction slated to begin in 2018) and share ways for community members to become involved. Funds raised will go to Felton Library Friends, a chapter of Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries, and will be used to enhance both the new library and the outdoor spaces. Raffle sales will begin mid-April, and the drawings will be at the Felton Library Festival on May 20.

An on-going film series that highlights the historical context of important films through 1900's-1940's. Every month a film that encapsulates the sociopolitical climate of that decade will be shown and discussed immediately following a screening. Silent, English, and foreign films will be included. Join us on the 4th Wednesday of each month for great movies and great conversations.

Reading in the Redwoods book group meets monthly at the Felton Library on the fourth Wednesday at 6:15 pm, reading contemporary books chosen by the members. Copies of each month's book are available at the Felton branch library. Due to the November and December holidays, there is no meeting in November and an alternative meeting date is scheduled for early December. For more information call 427-7708 or drop by the branch. FREE coffee, FREE talk; social support and information services for all. This program is designed to serve people experiencing homelessness, however it is an open space for all. Please join us in front of the downtown branch library (at the benches on the corner of Church St. and Center St.) every Thursday morning (except major holidays) for a free cup of coffee and the chance to talk, vent, brainstorm and connect with friends, neighbors and service providers. If you so choose, sign-up for Working Together, and work with an individual information advocate one-on-one to help you tackle an information issue, obstacle or problem of your choice.

Work with an information advocate on any information problem, access issue or obstacle of your choice. A library staff member or community volunteer will work with you, using a laptop computer and access to a phone, one-on-one, to help you overcome hurdles to housing, safety, education, health, income or well being. Same day sign-ups during Coffee Talk in front of the Downtown branch library at the corner Church St. & Center St. Connect with Kris Younggren, our Downtown Outreach Worker, make a free phone call, access free printing and scanning, receive help with establishing an email account, performing a housing search, creating a resume, applying for a lifeline telephone and more.

Kris Younggren, our community's Downtown Outreach Worker, is on the job solving problems in the downtown corridor every day. If you would like to speak with Kris, about a housing or wellness issue, or connecting with social services, please drop-in to her office hours at the Downtown library, in the downstairs small meeting room (behind the computer area). Kris can help with; fee free CA ID applications, homeward bound bus tickets, a mailing address via the Homeless Services Center (HSC), registration for the HSC campus, connection to Homeless Persons Health Project, Applications, Connection to County Mental Health Services, and more.
