Trained therapy dogs will be available at the Library to be attentive, non-judgmental reading partners for children reading aloud. Children have individual 20-minute time slots to sit with a dog and read. Call 427-7711 or e-mail tales2tails@santacruzpl.org to make an appointment.

A Nature Study Program with a variety of activities inspired by the natural environment of Corcoran Lagoon. • Learn about the environment and local wildlife with local experts. • Bird Watching • Examine microscopic creatures • Watercolor painting, printing, writing and reading. Adults must accompany children under 10. Not suitable for very young children.

CodeCombat is a real game that teaches how to code by playing through levels and quickly mastering programming concepts. It's not just gamification with bells and whistles, it's democratizing learning to code by making the process more accessible and engaging than ever before! Learners write code, execute it and see their changes in real-time! This event is open to youth 11 to 18 yrs

Spend an afternoon with Alesa Lightbourne the author of the popular book The Kurdish Bike as she talks about her experiences in the Middle East and writing her book. Alesa Lightbourne has been an English professor and teacher in six countries, lived on a sailboat, dined with Bedouins, and written for Fortune 50 companies. She lives close to Monterey Bay in California, where she loves to boogie board and ride her bicycle.
