The Stop Sign:
Look at the row of boxes near the top of the screen. The third box is the stop sign. If the sign is red, it means that the computer is still transferring and displaying the text and/or the images. When the stop sign is no longer red, all of the data has been displayed.

Moving Up and Down the Screen:
Usually there is more to a document than what you first see on the screen. Look at the right-hand side of the screen; see the arrow at the top and the arrow at the bottom of the column. By clicking onto the bottom arrow you move down the document. And--surprise, surprise--by clicking onto the top arrow you can move up the document. Keep clicking on the bottom arrow until you move down past our friend.

To see how far into the document you are:
Notice the box in the middle of the column at the right-hand of the screen. That box is called the elevator or scroll bar. It moves up or down as you move up or down the document. You can always tell how close to the top or bottom of the document you are by looking at the position of the scroll bar. If the scroll bar is a little below the middle of the column, you are a little more than half way through the document. You can also use the scroll bar to move up or down a screen. Here's how: position the arrow on the scroll bar. Then hold down the left clicker and drag the scroll bar up or down.

Back button: Look at the top of the screen. At the far left is a box with the word back on it. That is the back button. If you click onto the back button you will move back to the previous document that you were looking at.

Home button: In line with the back button and to the right, is a box with a house on it. That is the home button. If you click onto it, you will return to the page that the computer always starts with when it is turned on. That page is called the home page. In this case, you would go the Libraries' home page.

Navigation Icons: On most documents there is a way to jump to other documents. Often a small graphic like an arrow or other image is used along with words telling you where you are going. Sometimes just words are used. Notice the yellow and green arrow towards the bottom of this page. That arrow is a navigation icon. By clicking onto it or onto the words, you can move back to Jumping Around the World Wide Web.
