The Youth Services staff answers information questions, helps with research, and offers reading suggestions to children and teens, as well as parents and caregivers. Each branch has reference, fiction, and nonfiction materials appropriate for young people of all ages, and a parenting collection for adults. Throughout the year, Youth Services staff offers a variety of programs including storytimes, book discussion groups, and special events. In the summer there is a popular summer reading program for both readers and children being read to which culminates in the Festival of the Book in August. Year-round, young people aged 10 and older can volunteer at their branch libraries as Young Friends, and teens can serve on Teen Advisory Councils at the Garfield Park or Scotts Valley branches.
