Santa Cruz Public Libraries

Library Services for the Homebound

May 2005

The Santa Cruz Public Library System provides home delivery of library materials for individuals who are unable to visit the library due to disability or extended illness. Special homebound borrower cards are available for those individuals.

Volunteers and library staff deliver library materials to homebound persons in area nursing homes, retirement apartments, and individual residences. The service is provided to residents of the Santa Cruz Public Library service area who are unable to visit one of the library branches or the bookmobile. Participants must have no other means of receiving library service (such as delivery through family members or friends).

To find out whether you, a friend or family member are eligible for this service, call 420-5653 to arrange for a staff visit.

Volunteers Needed for Delivery of Library Materials

Volunteers are needed to provide delivery of library materials from Santa Cruz Public Libraries to homebound patrons. With just a few hours of time, volunteers provide up to a month of enjoyment for a homebound person.

If you are interested in helping homebound adults rediscover the joys of reading, please call the Friends of Santa Cruz Public Libraries at 420-5790 to request a volunteer application or register online at http://www.fscpl.org/volunteer/volunteerapp.html.
