The Library System staff is glad to offer members of the public proctoring services for written tests and examinations. The public should understand, however, that while staff will make every effort to meet individual needs, its primary obligation is to meet the information needs of the public. If proctoring an examination interferes with that, the staff cannot offer the service. There is a $20.00 flat fee for all Library examination proctoring services. The fee is payable before the examination may be taken.

There are three kinds of examinations library staff are asked to monitor: open book exams, on-line examinations (that use the Library's Internet equipment), and closed book examinations.

• Open book exams can be proctored at every Library Branch.
• On-line examinations can be proctored at all Branches except Felton and the Bookmobile, and only for youngsters 18 and under at the Garfield Park Branch. (Note: No Library Branches can accommodate exams that require Internet Explorer as the browser.)
• Closed book examinations can be proctored at the Boulder Creek and La Selva Branches only.

Open Book & Online Exams:
The following branches will proctor an open book or on-line examination for you. (Information on closed book exams is given below.) Appointments must be made in advance with the Branch Manager or staff, or, in the case of Central, with the Reference Supervisor.

For on-line examinations, an internet terminal must be reserved for you. Appointments will be scheduled for times when there is sufficient staff and the branch is relatively quiet. No on-line examinations will be proctored at the Felton Branch or the Bookmobile (there is no room). Only youngsters 18 years old and younger may take on-line examinations at the Garfield Park Branch. Please remember to fill out and sign an Examination Proctoring Form.

Closed Book Exams:
By agreeing to monitor a closed book exam, the Library staff takes on an obligation to the examination sponsor to ensure security. Thus we must limit the service to those Branches where effective monitoring is possible.

Closed book examinations will be proctored at the Boulder Creek and La Selva Beach Branch Libraries only. None of the other Library Branches have the space or furniture arrangement that makes library staff monitoring of a closed book exam possible.

Closed book examinations will be proctored on an appointment basis only. Please make arrangements at least twenty-four hours in advance with the Branch Manager or her/his designee for the date and time of the examination. The Library staff is the final authority on setting date and time.

The examination taker must sign a form agreeing to the Examination Monitoring Rules set by the Library: Examination Proctoring Form (in pdf format).
