Has the 2000 data been released? What format?

Order of the Release

By law, the data needed for redistricting is released by April 1st of the year after the Census was taken. Redistricting data was released April 2001. After the Redistricting data, the 100% data is released on a state by state basis. The Census Bureau began releasing 100% data in the summer of 2001. 100% data first comes out from Summary File 1. The 100% data is released later in more detail in Summary File 2. After the 100% data, the Sample Data is released in Summary File 3 and in more detail in Summary File 4. For more information, see Census Data Products. For the type of data included in the 100% and Sample Data, see What was asked on the Census?

Formats

With the advent of the Internet and other electronic media, the data is being released in a variety of formats. The first place the statistics will show up is on the Census Bureau's website, American FactFinder. The data may or may not be made available later in other formats: CD-ROM, DVD, print, computer file. If you do not find the data on American FactFinder, check the publication below:

If you find the type of statistic that you want, but do not find the geography, then it may be that the area is not available yet. Whenever a group of data is released, the statistics for the smaller states generally come out first, followed by the larger states. (So, California statistics usually come towards the end of a release).
