Tract Maps

Below are links to online 2000 CensusTract maps (in pdf). They were downloaded from the Census Bureau's Website to the Library's server.

The County is divided into four sections with a map for each section. In addition there are separate maps for Watsonville, part of San Lorenzo Valley, and part of the county area between Santa Cruz and Capitola. If it is not clear which map to use, look at the index map. (To see the full size of the map, change the percent figure at the bottom to 100% or higher.)

Since street names are not always indicated for tracts and not indicated at all for place boundaries, you may need to use a street map at the same time. Tracts are numbered two ways: four digits (ex. 1204) or four digits, a decimal, and two digits (ex. 1205.98).

Block Maps

Below are links to online 2000 Census Block Maps (in pdf) for Santa Cruz County. They were downloaded from the Census Bureau's Website to the Library's server.

The County is marked off into a grid. Each square in the grid is a map and is numbered 1 through 38. For some parts of the County there are inset maps. Inset maps are lettered A through H. Look at the Index Map to find which map to use to locate block numbers.

On the Block Maps, the smallest 4-digit numbers are the block numbers. Block numbers are not unique, so you will need to note the tract number also. (When you go to a source of data, you need first to go the tract and then select the block number.) On the Block Maps, tract numbers are larger than block numbers. The tract number may be 4-digits or 4-digits plus a decimal and 2 digits.
