You can get a safety rating of "any bank, savings bank, S&L or credit union in the country (also includes any federally-insured internet bank)" by calling Veribanc, a banking analysis firm, at 1-800-837-4226. A phone representative will tell you how the institution scores on the Veribanc color code and star rating systems. A written confirmation will be sent by mail. The service, charged to your Visa, Mastercard or American Express, costs $10.00 for one rating and $5 for each additional rating during the same call.
