According to American pediatric neurologist Donald Lewis, Charles Dickens' Tiny Tim was likely suffering from a crippling disease that could be diagnosed as renal tubular acidosis. This is an illness for which there was effective treatment in Dickens' time, proving that the author was not stretching reality by saving Tiny Tim.
