'Junk' Faxes

It is legal to send unsolicited faxes. However, the California Business and Professions Code § 17538.4 requires senders to include a toll-free number for recipients to request that no more faxes be sent. The fine for violations can be up to $500. The Federal Communications Commission's Telephone Consumer Protection Act has similar requirements, and applies to all companies doing business in California, whether or not the company is located in California. You may file a complaint with the Consumer Affairs Office of Santa Cruz County by calling (831) 454-2050 and with the FCC by calling (510) 732-9046.
