Major Sullivan Ballou's letter, "My Very Dear Sarah", written on July 14, 1861 at Camp Clark, seven days before he was killed at Bull Run, was cited in the opening episode of "The Civil War" (PBS, 1990). Here is the text of the letter as it was read on the PBS program.
