Read to Me is a Santa Cruz County project that emphasizes the importance of the public library contribution to literacy development in young children, 0-5. It promotes reading readiness by offering
- Read to Me Kits of age-appropriate reading materials to child care providers and preschool teachers
- Storytimes led by Library staff for child care homes and preschools
- Reading Readiness workshops for child care providers, preschool teachers, and parents
Read to Me services are free, and materials and services are available in English and Spanish.
Child care providers and preschool teachers can check out thematic Read to Me kits for 4-week periods. These blue canvas bags are filled with books to read aloud, puppets, felt stories, cassettes and CDs, and other materials on a variety of curriculum topics. The kits have been designed specifically for child care and preschool teachers and have been successfully used and refined for the past six years.
