Outstanding!

Maisie Dobbs

Title: Maisie Dobbs
By: Jacqueline Winspear

Aren’t you glad when a book is narrated well? It makes such a difference. I listened to the first book in the popular “Maisie Dobbs” mystery series by Jacqueline Winspear with the actress Rita Barrington reading aloud as I leisurely puttered in the backyard. I enjoyed getting to know the heroine Maisie Dobbs, Psychologist and Investigator, found the time period fascinating (set in Britain, after World War I), and was intrigued with the cases she sets out to solve. A real breath of fresh air - and the library has the entire series in book form too! Maisie Dobbs, Birds of a Feather, Pardonable Lies, Messenger of Truth, An Incomplete Revenge, Among The Mad, The Mapping of Love and Death, and A Lesson in Secrets.

Maisie Dodds was the favorite character of my late wife and I have picked her up as one of my favorites. Winspear has been favorably compared with Dickens for her stromg character definitions and the accurate use of historical data/events. Dickens and I go back a long way. I have not talked to anyone who was not enthralled with Maisie.
