Volunteer Opportunities for Photography Lovers

The NEA sponsored Big Read celebration of John Steinbeck and The Grapes of Wrath starts on February 27th, the 111th anniversary of Steinbeck's birth. We have a series of fantastic discussions and events going on, and you can help!
If you love photographs, we have some great opportunities for you:
We need history-loving volunteers to help explain the Visualizing the Great Depression photo exhibit to the public. The work of Dorothea Lange and other contemporary photographers will be on display in the upstairs meeting room of the Downtown Branch. We're looking for docent help on March 6th from 10am - 4pm, March 7th from 5pm - 8:30pm, March 8th from 5pm - 8:30pm, and March 9th from 1pm - 4pm. Docents work in 2 hour shifts, helping to explain the exhibit (what it's about, who the photographers were, the different subjects in the photos, etc.) and encouraging people to walk amongst the photos. No previous docent experience is required; we'll help teach you everything you need to know to help share our history with the community.
We're also looking for people who love to take their own photos. We have 30 scheduled events taking place as part of Big Read, and we'd love your help capturing the action as it happens!
If you are interested in these opportunities, contact our Volunteer office at (831) 427-7700 x7615 or by email at volunteer@santacruzpl.org.
