Learn a Language Online!

Mango Languages online language-learning system is now available! The courses are currently offered in over 35 foreign languages, plus more than 15 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. You can access Mango via the Internet Resources section of the website under Education. With your library card and access to the Internet, you can study remotely from anywhere!

Each language lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application that integrates components of vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Users learn actual conversation, breaking down complex conversational elements within an audio-visual framework that allows the user to draw important connections between pieces of information they have already learned.

Need Info On the Go? Text a Librarian!

Americans text message almost twice as much as they talk on mobile phones, according to a recent Nielsen Mobile Survey.

SCPL’s new service makes it easy to reach a librarian and maintains the privacy of our patrons’ information. With Text a Librarian, people ask questions by sending text messages with their mobile phones and librarians answer on a web-based interface. The service does not display phone numbers and generates an anonymous ID for each patron in order to reference conversation history.

Using the service is easy. Text SCPL to 66746 for instructions. You can also sign up to receive text message alerts. Just text SCPL to 66746 and then follow the instructions to opt in! Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP to 66746 to opt-out. Text HELP to 66746 for help.

What are you waiting for? Give it a try!
