New Articles In Local History

SCPL News

We've added several new articles to the Local History Articles section of our website. The articles, by local authors Barry Brown and Paul Tutwiler, provide detailed information about some of the interesting history of Santa Cruz County.

  • Barry Brown's article on the California Powder Works & San Lorenzo Paper Mill, takes a look back to a time when black gunpowder was manufactured in Santa Cruz County. Fully illustrated with images and maps, the article describes the processes, people, and places associated with this dangerous endeavor.
  • Paul Tutwiler's Santa Cruz Spirituality, provides an in-depth, detailed survey of the history of spirituality and religion in Santa Cruz County, from the time of the Ohlone, to the present.
