The New York Hotel & Motel Trades Council, AFL-CIO, represents approximately 28,000 hotel workers in New York City. The Council has the strongest contract for hotel workers in North America, and includes 9 local trade unions from the following: UNITE HERE! (including Local 6), SEIU, OPEIU, IBEW, USWA, IUP.

We have immediate openings for supervisory positions for intelligent, hard-working, highly motivated lead organizers with a minimum of three years experience in the labor movement. We offer a stimulating environment in a powerful union that encourages and develops active rank-and-file leadership.

The hotel industry in New York City has been experiencing a prolonged construction boom and it is vital to our members, and to those who work without the dignity of a union contract, that we maintain and improve union density in the industry.
We are looking for lead organizers who can communicate well and can motivate and establish relationships with people from a wide variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.

Other requirements:

  • Union organizing experience, including experience as a lead organizer.
  • Some combination of research, advocacy, and political or corporate campaign experience is also highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and computer skills required.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or relevant language (Cantonese, Mandarin, Polish, Russian, Bengali, Vietnamese) a plus but not required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leads research efforts to define campaign targets, strategies and objectives.
  • Develops and coordinates the campaign approach.
  • Formulates, recommends, and administers campaign plans and budgets.
  • Supervises, trains, and directs organizers and other staff.
  • Performs other duties as needed to support the union's overall mission-this could involve some travel or picket-line duty.
  • Lead Organizers may also be assigned to work on internal and external organizing in Washington, DC.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary is negotiable based on experience with a general range of $40,000-$70,000.
