Career Counselor/
Implementation Specialist

 

The SEIU UHW-WEST & Joint Employer Educational Fund, a Labor-Management Fund organized to provide educational and training opportunities for healthcare workers, has a position available for a Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist to work on our Longterm Care Program. This is a salaried position based in our Oakland office and reporting to the Program Manager.

The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist works with Education Fund staff, unions, employers, employees and instructors to develop, implement, and provide outreach for training programs. The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist is responsible for developing recruitment and training materials and keeping required documentation of training programs and participants.

The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist meets individually with participants to provide advice and guidance on career paths within the healthcare field. Additionally, the successful applicant will deliver workshops on counseling and support topics, as well as provide individual assessments, enrollment, case management and referral services to participants while maintaining relevant education plans, case files, tracking reports, and written compliance reports. Other responsibilities may include the processing of participant stipends, which includes the collection and analysis of forms and data. This individual will also communicate with Education Fund staff, unions, and employers regarding ongoing programs.
Significant regional travel to employer facilities and training locations, including occasional overnight trips, will be required.

Minimum qualifications and abilities include:
• At least one year of community or union organizing experience
• A commitment to serving a low-income, mostly immigrant workforce
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills required
• Knowledge of healthcare occupations and skill requirements,
• Commitment to working within a labor/management environment,
• Ability to conduct various forms of basic and vocational skills testing.
• Experience and knowledge to counsel healthcare workers regarding college pre-requisites and requirements in the field,
• Ability to work independently and develop relationships with educational institutions, unions, and healthcare employers,
• Flexibility to accommodate changing work requirements.
• Strong written, oral, computer, organizational and problem solving skills are critical for success in this position, 
• Valid driver’s license, insurance and automobile in good working order required.
• Minimum of one year’s experience planning and implementing educational or training programs preferred
• BA required. Degree in education, career counseling, or other relevant field is desired.
