Laborers’ Eastern Region Organizing Fund (LEROF)
Community Organizer

The Laborers' Eastern Region Organizing Fund has an opening for a Community Organizer. The Laborers' Eastern Region is a progressive Union representing over 30,000 members, primarily in the construction industry, in NYC, NJ, and DE.  The opening will be based in New York City.

Job Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team that is paving the way for a new type of organizing for the Building Trades. This person would be employed by the Laborers Eastern Region Organizing Fund, and would work almost exclusively with Laborers' Local 78 based in NYC.

Skills/Requirements:
• 2 + years of union, community or political organizing experience.
• Excellent communication skills a must
• Ability to develop a strategic outreach plan
• Commitment to social justice and workers' rights
• Excellent listening, interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Ability to build and maintain coalitions
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to communicate in Spanish a plus
• Willingness to work long, irregular hours

Qualifications:
• At least 2 years of community, union, or political experience. Or advanced degree in Labor Studies, Law, Political Science or Social Policy.
