Special Note: The purpose of this position is to assist AFT Healthcare in developing resources, information, strategic plans and support activities to serve our affiliates and members working in healthcare occupations.
  
Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the director, the individual will assist in developing advocacy campaigns at state and national levels; research and write materials summarizing current issues confronting our members; conduct educational programs and assist in planning conferences and meetings; track developments in healthcare policy and represent the division at meetings and conferences.
  
Position Responsibilities:

  • Track industry changes that will impact healthcare workforce, unions and collective bargaining and develop educational materials and strategies to assist affiliates in understanding and preparing for change;
  • Work with affiliate leaders to develop and implement campaigns at the state and local levels;
  • Create materials including fact sheets, white papers and websites in support of advocacy campaigns;
  • Maintain communication vehicles such as e-newsletters, LeaderNet, website, and Facebook and help to expand capacity in communicating with affiliates; 
  • Assist other staff in developing agendas for meetings and conferences such as the annual professional issues conference;
  • Organize and conduct trainings for affiliates and leaders;
  • Represent the division at various national meetings and conferences;
  • Other duties as assigned.

  
Primary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including experience conducting presentations.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry and issues affecting nurses and health professionals.
  • Prior work experience in a union environment.
  • Good personal organizational skills including meeting deadlines and taking responsibility for seeing projects through to completion.

  
Secondary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience working in the healthcare industry is preferred but not required.
