LABOR ECONOMIST
RESEARCH AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING DEPARTMENT

UNITED STAFF UNION - GRADE 8

Salary starts at $65,902

 

DUTIES: This position analyzes a variety of narrative and statistical data to prepare analyses, reports and studies involving labor relations, compensation, public finance and policy issues, and to provide assistance to affiliates during negotiations, impasse resolution proceedings, legislative efforts and other union activities.  Areas of analysis include, but are not limited to: public sector budgets, laws and regulations, workplace issues, privatization, personnel and civil service systems, and collective bargaining issues.  Uses a broad spectrum of internal and external resources to analyze a topic. May assist more senior economists in more complex assignments and analyses and the preparation of requisite materials.  Writes correspondence and reports. Performs other general labor economist duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in economics, labor relations political science, public policy, public administration,  and two to three years  of  experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides  the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: knowledge of labor unions, public services, budget analysis issues, and the collective bargaining process and issues. Ability  to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to write reports and make presentations.  Ability to conduct sound research and make logical conclusions.  Ability to formulate program strategies and respond to formal information requests.  Ability to perform budget analysis and understand and interpret economic data.  Skilled in the use of personal computers, internet based research and database software.  Travel is required.
