Purpose:
The Director of Health Systems Strategy oversees health systems campaign development, directs a research team focused on health systems while supporting organizing in other sectors, and is responsible for administrative and managerial duties. The Director is a member of the Division’s Senior Staff team and will work closely with the Division Executive Vice President, Director, and Organizing Director.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed. Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)
• Coordinate short and long-term planning, implementation and evaluation of research programs to support the Healthcare Division’s organizing program. Provide expertise and guidance on healthcare issues and campaigns to other Division programs, other parts of the union, and locals as needed.
• Develop and execute breakthrough campaigns to build power for healthcare workers.
• Recruit, hire and train staff for these programs. Build a coordinated team that is capable of running and/or providing research support to multiple campaigns simultaneously.
• Work with local union research staff to build Division-wide capacity for campaign research and execution.
• Work closely with research department leadership to advance research capacity, uphold strong standards, and promote organizational equity and staff development across the research department. Adheres to research department policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Direction and Decision Making:
Manage at own initiative, independent of all but necessary supervision by the Division Director.
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree or higher in economics, business, finance or related field or equivalent formal training and experience and related labor-advocacy work.
• Advanced knowledge of healthcare delivery and financing.
• Advanced knowledge of labor and public interest issues.
• Strong management, interpersonal, analytical, writing and oral communication skills
• At least seven years’ experience with labor, public interest organizations, finance, or related advocacy work.
• Skill in the use of personal computer including Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting, but may be required to work in other settings conducive to performing the tasks required to complete assignments. Travel and long and extended hours required.
