Benefits Examiner- Level III

Title: Benefits Examiner - Level III
Location: Washington, DC
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reports to Supervisor, Member Services Department.

2. Requires proficiency in processing pension applications and pre-retirement correspondence.  That is, analyzes, researches, and verifies all information received.  Obtains all facts to support decisions, composes original letters as required, and calculates pension estimates under the International Plan Rules or Rules of Plans that have merged with IPF.

3. Responds to participants and local union office phone calls courteously and effectively, communicating clear and accurate details of benefit programs to Plan participants and Local Union representatives. 

4. Researches delinquent hour inquiries utilizing all Department and computer resources and forwards delinquent hour research for collection.  Notifies Plan participants of results. 

5. Requires a high level of skill in the use of the Member Services computer system.  
 
6. Handles phone calls from general members and staff employees; with a variety of administrative, pension and other documents; and provides services for members.

7.          Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or other office executives.

SKILLS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

1. Demonstrated ability to meet tightly scheduled deadlines and work pressures.

2. Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize the Member Services computer system as well   as a PC.

3. Strong oral and written communication skills.

4. Good mathematics, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

5. Requirement – Must speak Spanish/English fluently and be able to translate verbal and
  written communications from English to Spanish and vice versa.
