Digital Media Coordinator

National Labor College (NLC) seeks a creative, dynamic individual to join the Marketing and Communications team.  The individual will develop, monitor, and improve website, oversee the strategy production and effectiveness of emails; and establish a social media presence in order to advance NLC’s mission and expand outreach within the unionized workforce and broader public.  The Digital Media Coordinator reports to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications and works closely with faculty members, staff in Marketing and Communications, Admissions, Registrar, Advising, Institutional Research and Information Technology, as well as with representatives of the AFL-CIO, Union Privilege, partner unions, and outside consultants.  This is a bargaining unit position in the Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, monitor and improve website, other digital communication tools, and new media to meet NLC’s academic, advancement and administrative objectives

• Collaborate with the NLC community to solicit and update content across all electronic communications platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, the NLC blog and the learning management system (currently Moodle)

• Produce feature content for all media including student testimonials, microsites, interactive, and other programmatic content including multimedia projects utilizing digital video

• Build brand awareness by managing content, look, feel, and function of all NLC communications as well as helping to drive external traffic to NLC.edu by keeping sites fresh and current

• Optimize the functionality and navigability of the website and all email efforts; perform website and webpage analyses, including Google analytics, to track marketing and communications efforts including through email and unique landing pages for individual campaigns

• Produce monthly reports summarizing success rates of campaign initiatives

• Lead implementation and management of appropriate SEO and analytics tools

• Develop and implement methods to gain placements in electronic communications and social media outlets of partner unions and like-minded organizations

• Stay current on digital trends and utilize all appropriate technology to ensure maximum benefit for NLC’s educational, communications and marketing needs
• Serve on standing, search and ad hoc committees of the College as required
• Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• At least 3-5 years of experience with digital media including website, email, blogging and social media applications
• Familiarity with the labor movement, higher education, online education, and/or mission-driven organizations
• Excellent written communication, especially for use online and in the blogosphere
• Strong organizational and analytic skills
• Knowledge of graphic design programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, Fireworks, or Illustrator, and experience with content management systems (WordPress) and HTML is a plus
• Willingness to take on routine tasks as needed, be a team player, and have a positive attitude
