Job Description:
The Political & Community Organizer position is supervised by the Colorado AFL-CIO Executive Director and works to support the Political Director in executing program as prioritized by national and state leadership in the following areas:
• Provides staff assistance to the six regional Area Labor Federations/Central Labor Councils across the state including attending their meetings on a regular basis, assisting council officers in building participation from affiliate unions, and executing national/statewide program at the local council level.
• Organizes affiliate union leaders and their members in support of electoral and legislative program priorities.
• Supports the work of the Affiliate Program Director by assisting in organizing community partners, elected officials and civic leaders around issues and campaigns important for working families.
Job Requirements:
• Minimum of 1-2 years of community organizing, political, legislative or related experience. Experience working for labor union or progressive organizations preferred, but not required.
• An understanding and motivation to promote issues important to working families and labor organizations.
• Experience in working with a diverse set of individuals and organizations whose interests may be broadly divergent at times.
• Strong writing, public speaking skills and the ability to motivate others towards action.
• The ability to take direction and follow a strategic plan, while at the same time being creative, innovative and adaptive in the programmatic execution.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task on multiple projects.
• The ability to work long hours for certain periods under tight deadlines.
Salary and Compensation: $33,500 annual salary, Travel Reimbursement, Paid Holidays, Pension, Health and Dental Coverage comprise the compensation package.
