Organizing Coordinator  (Property Services)


Purpose:
The position is responsible for working with Property Services Division and Local staff to implement worker organizing tactics and strategies used in Property Services organizing campaigns, and for assessing and improving field organizing capacity across the Division and its Locals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed.  Examples provide a general summary of the work required and should not be treated as a total and complete list of expected duties to be performed by employees in the classification.)
Under the direction of the Property Services Field Director and in concert with the Property Services Campaign Directors,
• Develop and implement successful field strategies and plans on Property Services organizing campaigns.
• Develop and implement consistent metrics and standards for measuring worker strength and overall field progress
• Assess Division and Local field work based on these metrics, and work with Division and Local staff to improve field performance.

• Supervise, lead, assign, and evaluate staff, including developing individual work plans with staff and overseeing their implementation and evaluation.
• Design and implement staff training and development plans and programs. 
• Recruit, interview and recommend hiring staff.
• Review and make recommendations on appropriate allocation of Division staff and resources.
• Work cooperatively in collaboration with other SEIU Local Union and International Union staff.
• Maintain day-to-day contact with SEIU leadership; work independently to integrate strategies.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the work of the Division.

Contacts:
May include International Union staff and leaders; Local Union staff, leaders and members; CTW staff; state federation and central labor council leaders and staff; staff of other unions; public officials.

Direction and Decision Making:
This position reports to the Property Services Field Director and works independently.

Education and Experience:
B.A. degree or at least three (3) years of supervisory experience and five (5) years of related work experience or combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Thorough knowledge of labor program planning and development.
• 
• Knowledge of strategies and techniques used by SEIU to organize and lead division workers.
• 
• Knowledge of unions and their issues.
• 
• Knowledge of  bargaining, organizing and organizational management
• 
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to make formal presentations and write advocacy papers.
• 
• Ability to use personal computer.
• 
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

• Ability to handle multiple “priority” projects and meet established timelines.
Ability to work effectively with elected leaders and staff in complex and sometime political situations.
Ability to conduct training sessions.
Ability to communicate political and policy priorities to SEIU members.


Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting, but position will also require work in other settings, particularly when in the field.  Travel and long and extended hours required.
