Position: Executive Director
Location: Bay Area
Job Summary
The Executive Director for the University Council - American Federation of Teachers, under the direction of the UC-AFT president, manages the day-to-day work of the union representing 4,000 lecturers and librarians in the University of California system. The Executive Director directs, supervises and evaluates UC-CFT field staff in the University of California system; works with the Secretary-Treasurer to develop the budget; handles the benefits plans for the union's employees; and also engages in representation and other legal matters.
Qualifications and Experience
• Ability to accurately and coherently compose correspondence, charges, grievances, campaign literature, flyers and bargaining language
• Experience organizing and representing workers in higher education
•Knowledge of public and private sector labor laws and critical issues facing higher education in California and the United States
• Experience directing and supervising staff
• Experience negotiating contracts and labor agreements
• JD and ability to practice law is preferable
