
Outreach and Education Director
In the Public Interest (ITPI), a comprehensive research center on privatization and responsible contracting, is in search of an Outreach and Education Director who possesses both vision and the willingness to do the hard, unglamorous work needed to see that vision become reality. This position is based in Washington, DC, and may require significant travel.
Principle Responsibilities
The Outreach director will be responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive program to educate and involve leaders, activists and members in diverse constituencies and public voices in debates about government contracting and privatization. The director will work closely with research, communications and advocacy teams to identify strategies and issues to connect privatization to the agendas and programs of issue-based organizations and other constituencies.
The director will also build and lead sector specific coalitions and working groups in key sectors including prisons, infrastructure and others and identify state-based partners and create coalitions in targeted states.
Specific duties
• Mapping and pursuing one-on-one relationships with new organizations and leaders
• Work with partners and allies to identify outreach and education opportunities
• Identifying and pursuing speaking opportunities and deploying ITPI staff for engagements.
• Write fact sheets, articles and blogs to support outreach goals
• Work with Scholar network coordinator to recruit other voices to author ITPI content.
• Work with ITPI staff to develop and lead a training program on issues and campaign strategies for ITPI partners, progressive networks and new constituencies
• Recruiting and involving partners and potential partners in specific ITPI initiatives and campaigns.
• Coordinate regular coalition strategy sessions and develop and support campaigns at the state and local levels
• Identify and recruit non-traditional third parties and stake holders in anti-privatization campaigns
• Develop and maintain a database of compelling third party validators, opinion leaders and citizens who can tell personal stories about public service
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Candidates for this position must be creative, innovative leaders with:
• 5-8 years of organizing, coalition and/or legislative campaign experience
• Ability to translate policy details and research into practical and accessible materials
• Ability to bring together diverse constituencies into effective coalitions
• Excellent organizational, writing and editing skills.
• A commitment to keeping public services under taxpayer control
Location and Travel
This position will be located in Washington, DC and may require significant travel.
