LEAD INTERNAL ORGANIZER
Local 32BJ of SEIU is one of the largest and most dynamic labor unions in the United States, with 120,000 members in 8 states and Washington, DC. In addition to bargaining agreements and representing our members, 32BJ is at the forefront of driving a progressive policy agenda, including living and prevailing wage laws, responsible procurement and development standards, and access to health care.
We are looking for a Lead Internal Organizer to help to lead key aspects of the union’s work in the Pittsburgh area, including oversight of representational programs and support for organizing and political campaigns. This position will report to the Western Pennsylvania Area Leader and is based in Pittsburgh.
Job Responsibilities:
• Directly supervise and mentor representational field staff.
• Working closely with the WPA Area Leader and elected leaders of Local 32BJ, develop and drive all union activity in Pittsburgh, including member leader development, contract negotiations and enforcement, and growth.
• Help to ensure that all representational, political, organizing, and member capacity work is aligned with Local 32BJ priorities.
• Help to lead contract and organizing campaigns, including rallies, press events and targeted owner activity.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of experience in labor, political, or community organizing
• Understanding of collective bargaining and contract enforcement
• Experience successfully managing staff in a team setting
• Ability to design and implement powerful and effective member programs
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders across the union
• A strong commitment to the work of Local 32BJ
