Job Title: Senior Member Coordinator

Working America, the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is the fastest growing organization for working people in the country. With more than 3 million members recruited since 2003, Working America recruits and mobilizes people who do not have a union on the job in support of working families’ issues.

The Senior Member Coordinator will, with minimal supervision, implement program initiatives, engage members, do earned media events and work with allies at the state and local level.

Reports to: State Director

Duties:

  • Work at a high-level with State and Regional Directors on state and local projects;
  • Serve as lead in creating strategies for recruiting, re-contacting and developing member activists;
  • In consultation with the State Director, research and develop programmatic ideas around state and local issues;
  • Implement programs and engage members on issues;
  • Develop community action teams;
  • Represent Working America as appropriate with high level contacts at allied organizations;
  • Lead member or allied organization events;
  • In consultation with the Communications team, create and coordinate earned media events;
  • Brief national management, Board of Directors, and field management and staff regularly on programmatic achievements and developments on key issues;
  • Regular site canvassing the frequency of which may vary depending on program needs;
  • Occasional door canvassing the frequency of which may vary depending on program needs; door canvassing may be required more often in offices without a canvass operation where the focus is on member mobilization.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 years’ experience as Member Coordinator or similar experience;
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and public speaking skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Working America to a variety of high level allies and audiences;
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines, and maintain good records;
  • Strong understanding and experience with labor movement required;
  • Must work well with a team;
  • Basic computer skills required, including knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Some travel required.
