Job Title: Regional Mobilization Director

Working America, community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is the fastest growing organization for working people in the country. With more than three million members, Working America recruits and mobilizes people who do not have a union on the job in support of working families’ issues.

The Regional Mobilization Director, a member of the National Field Staff, is responsible for overseeing member mobilization work in an assigned region. The Regional Mobilization Director will work with the Mobilization Director, State Director, and Member Coordinators to ensure the quality and cohesiveness of Working America’s member mobilization program, train and support Member Coordinators in their work, oversee the development of member activists and leaders across the country, and ensure that members play a key role in Working America’s mission of furthering economic justice and well-being for working families across the country.

Reports to: Mobilization Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the State Director plan, implement, oversee and evaluate member mobilization program plans in each office;
  • Work with the Mobilization Director to build and maintain Working America’s national member mobilization program, including creating and overseeing pilots, learning and testing new mobilization methodology, and conducting regular national analysis and strategic recommendations related to member mobilization efficacy;
  • In consultation with State Directors, effectively recommend hiring, promoting, demoting, disciplining and termination of Member Coordinators;
  • Direct Member Coordinators’ member mobilization and activist development work;
  • In consultation with State Director, oversee Member Coordinators’ weekly, monthly and yearly goals, work plans, and focus of work;
  • Train new Member Coordinators and oversee the development and training of all Member Coordinators’ mobilization work;
  • Design materials, including training manuals for all positions within the mobilization team, uniform and consistent tracking systems, policies and procedures;
  • Oversee the management of member database and other systems;
  • Plan and execute regional and national staff trainings and other meetings;
  • Collaborate with National and National Field Staff;
  • Perform regular site visits to all offices within assigned geographic region;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • At least three years’ experience directly engaging, mobilizing and developing activists;
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop staff;
  • At least two years supervisory experience;
  • Three or more years’ experience in electoral, labor or community organizing;
  • Leadership, team-building and strategic planning experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement long range plans, and to oversee other staff in the execution of these plans;
  • Knowledge of national and local structures of the labor movement strongly preferred;
  • Effective time management skills including prioritization and managing multiple tasks;
  • Ability to work independently in politically sensitive and high pressure environments;
  • Excellent problem-solving and relational skills;
  • Computer proficiency and strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis as needed;
  • Must be able to work irregular and long hours, including ability to be reachable during hours member mobilization work is conducted for all assigned offices.
