AFSCME 3299 is hiring a Strategic Campaign Researcher in Oakland, CA.
AFSCME Local 3299 is a dynamic progressive labor union representing 21,000 Service and Patient Care workers at the University of California. We are a member-driven union with newly elected rank and file leadership, dedicated to building a strong union to fight for our benefits, jobs and families.
We are currently seeking a Strategic Campaign Researcher to join our Research Department. The department conducts in-depth research related to the University and its activities, and timely policy issues around higher education and healthcare. Additionally, it helps develop and implement strategic campaigns in support of the union’s organizing and bargaining activities.
Responsibilities include:
• Help design and execute campaign strategy and tactics;
• Evaluate legal, budgetary and policy issues related to higher education and health care, including in-depth analysis of public agency budgets;
• Perform in-depth corporate research;
• Work with community, political and labor allies; and
• Produce research materials to educate our members, the general public, policy makers and the media;
• Provide support to the Local’s Chief Negotiator and Bargaining Team for contract negotiations.
Required qualifications include:
• Over three years experience performing strategic campaign research preferred;
• Researchers experienced with both public sector budgets and financial analysis are strongly encouraged to apply;
• Superlative research skills, including those used for industry, corporate and issue research;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to plan, research, write and edit quality research materials;
• Ability to take initiative, to work with a team, and to handle multiple projects and tight deadlines;
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database work;
• Strong commitment to the labor movement and social justice work; and
• Willingness to work irregular hours, sometimes including weekends and evenings.
